~•
~.
2.3.1 Channel Re-Establishment at the Facility Area
The stream which was present in the low-lying area around
the Np 1 mine facilities was diverted to the south during mine
operation. This dsversion was removed and a designed channel was
re-established in the original low-lying area.
The following subsections address the various aspects o+ the
design:
Hydrology
Hydrologic analyses for the purpose of estimating peak runof+
rates have not been performed as a part of this design. Instead,
the design discharge rates were taken from a previous report
prepared by Merrick and Company (3)* in 1979 during development
of the mine site and are summarized as follows:
Design Event
10 year, 24 hour
lUU year, 24 hour
Peak Discharge kate
325 c+s
/00 cfs
These runoff rates were determined in the referenced report
using a hydrograph procedure outlined by the Soil L'onservation
Service (4) with a 1.36 square mile contributory watershed and an
average annual precipitation of 19 inches.
* Numbers in parentheses refer to items listed in the
keferences.
M-5A
7/rl~7
