• i
2. Confine mine dewatering to an area within the slurry wall to mitigate
against impacts on neighboring shallow residential wells and,
3. Eliminate the need for a permanent water augmentation plan.
The applicant will fill the ponds and maintain the pond water levels with surface
water rights owned by the Stegner family.
The presence of the lined pond system will serve as a barrier to ground water
flow in the immediate vicinity of the operation. This could result in a short-term,
localized mounding of ground water in the northern, up-gradient direction and a
water surface depression on the down slope side of the lined ponds. This will
stabilize over time to approximately pre-mining ground water levels.
The applicant proposes to construct a drain system around the exterior perimeter
of the lined ponds to transfer any surplus water from the up gradient side to the
down gradient side via ditches or pipes. This will eliminate the
mounding/depression effect. This system will be installed at the pre-mining
ground water surface to ensure maintenance of the pre-mining ground water
table.
Once these two systems have been installed, overburden and topsoil will be
stripped from the Phase I area. It is proposed that certain areas outside of the pit
boundaries be filled to build up the land above the ultimate pond water level.
~z
