EXHIBIT D -MINING PLAN
Overview
The applicant proposes to develop the site as a sand and gravel mining and
processing operation. Approximately 56 acres of the total 80 acres will be mined
(see Exhibit C-1). After mining is finished, the excavated area will be completed
as two lined ponds, separated by a dam and isolated from the ground water
system by an impervious liner or possibly a slurry wall. The resultant ponds and
separation berm will be smaller than the jurisdictional cut-off, as specified in the
Colorado State Engineer's office guidance documents entitled Dam Safety
Project Review Guidelines and Rules and Regulations for Dam Safety and Dam
Construction. The long-term post-mining land use of the area around the
perimeter of the ponds is at this time undefined. The Reclamation Plan assumes
plans and costs for restoration of the mining area as two ponds and wildlife
habitat.
Mine Plan
Prior to the commencement of mining, the applicant may construct a slurry cut-off
wall around the two ponds, into shale bedrock to isolate the proposed
mining/pond area from the ground water system.
This provision is intended to:
1. Isolate the mine area to minimize mine dewatering costs,
