These soils formed in ~wind- <br />wnrl;crl snarly material. ~ <br />In a rvpresrntntivo profile, the sm•fnce layer is grnyish- <br />brmvn :uul dark grayish-brown loamy sand about 0 <br />inches thick. It is noncnlcareous. The upper pert of the <br />snlisnil is d;ul:-brown and brown snntly loam about 12 <br />inches thii•h.- Tt, is nmlcalcnreous. The lower part of <br />the subsoil is yellowish-brown ]onmy sand about 11 <br />int•Ites title]:. It is noncnlcnreous. Included iu m~p- <br />ping are a few small areas of Vona ]onmy spud. <br />Most Wrens of this soil me cnlt.ivnted (fig. 12). Many <br />small, scattered areas are under native grass. It is mostly nlo»g nlnjor stream chantlcls. <br />Slopes are irregular but me dominnnt.ly 4 to D Percent. <br />Surface runoff is medium, and the hazards of sail bloo- <br />ing and venter erosion are severe. <br />Included in mapping are small Wrens of I3lnkcltind <br />loamy sand. The I3lnkclnnd soil commonly is on tLc <br />top of slopes, and this Truckton soil is on the gentle <br />side slopes. <br />1lfuch of this soil is cultivated. Some of the more <br />strongly sloping areas have a cover of native grass. The <br />soil is generally unsuitable for cult.ivntimt and is better <br />suited to permanent grass. Cnpnbility unit VIc-4, non- <br />irrignted; Sandy Plains range site; tree planting suit <br />ability group 2. <br />Truckton sandy loam, 1 to 3 percent slopes (TuBI.- <br />This soil is in areas that arc irregular in shape and <br />range from :30 to 300 acres in size. It Itns tt profile <br />similar to the one described ns representative for tLc <br />series, but it ltns n sandy lontn stlt•fncc layer attd a <br />thicker surface Inver and subsoil. Included in mapping <br />ara some areas where slopes are less than 1 percent. <br />Surface runoff is slow' to mediwn, and the hazard of <br />water orasfon is slight. The hnznrd of soil blowing <br />IS SCPCI'C. <br />Abort half of this soil is cultivated, and the cultivated <br />acreage is about evenly divided between irrigated farm- <br />in~ and di,vfnrming. The rest has n cover of'~native <br />grass. Cnpnbility unit IIIe-4, irrigated, and IIIe-7, <br />nonirrigated; Sandy Plains range site; teen planting <br />suitability group 2. <br />'Trut•kton sandy loam, 3 to 5 percent slopes ITuCI•- <br />'l'llis soil is on uplands, in areas that are irregular in <br />shape and range from 20 to 80 acres iu size. It has n <br />profile similar to the one des,;ribed~ns representntive for <br />the series, but it has n sandy loam surface layer. Run- <br />o(T is medium, and the hnznrd of venter erosion is <br />moderate. The hazard of soil blowing is severe. This <br />soil is more, di0icult to work, more suscept.iblc to m•osion, <br />and lame dilTirult to keep fi»m eroding tLnn are similar <br />soils having less slope. Included in mapping are Wrens <br />of Yrntn sand}• loam and other soils that have more <br />linu~ in the profile. <br />,\ I I of this soil is cultivated. The itnznt•ci <br />of soil blowing is severe. <br />Included in mopping, in some of the rougher places, <br />are small areas of Truckton loamy snttd and I3lakcland <br />loamy sand. <br />Soma areas of this soil are cultivated, «nd; some <br />old fields have been reseeded to grass. ,host Wrens of tho <br />soil have a covm~ of native grass.
