..'M
C~
The dry erposure range site occupies the steep slopes, ridges
and hillsides. The soils have a droughty desert appearance,
are thin and low in fertility.' These factors, coupled with
--sharply reduced moisture affectiveness due to slopes, soils
snow removal by wind and high evaporative rates, contribute.
to restrictions in plant growth. This area has predo;ninately
a grass and cushion-type forb plant community. The wheatgrasses
dominate the grass production while phlox, fringed safe and loco
(Antra alus~Spp.) are the major forb species. Low sa,e
(Ar.temisin arbuscula) and low rabbitbrush comprise the shrub
component.
The salt flat range site occupies the flat to gently :c].opinl;
scaales. This site consists of a~ salt tolerant shrub-,,^,rasslaiicl
plant community. Western wheatgrass (~+~ropvron smi.thi.i), anc!
alkali sacaton (Sporobolus airoides) are the dominate grass
species while phlox, aster and stonecrop comprise the forb com-
ponent. Big sagebrush, alkali sagebri+sl~, rabbitbrush, greasc+:•oocl
(Sarcobatus vermiculatus) and winterfat (Ceratoi.des lnnata) mal:c.
up the majority of the shrub composition.
No suitable habitat for threatened and endangered plant species
exists within the proposed lease area and no threatened and
endangered plant species are known to exist within the area.
L_~
In regard to the revegetation potential of the site, many of tlic
native grass species may be reestablished if proper reclamation
techniques are utilized. Intcrseeding with a number of whcat-
grass hybrids and other introduced grass and forb species may be
necessary and/or more favorable depending upon site conditions at
the time of reclamation. Proper seedbed preparation, slope con-
touring, fertilization, and snoia.fence construction may be use;l
as effective tools toward reclaiming this site back to a facsi;nile
of its native condition:
H. Wildlife -
The proposed lease area provides habitat for a variety of wildlife
species associated with the sageb'rush-grassland ecosystem.
