Portions of this site falls within an area L;it ~::~ <br />aerially sprayed in 1963 as part of a range imprnecr,.ent pro ,j.:ct <br />designed to remove the dominating sagebrush campy. The 5:~...~: <br />species occur within this sprayed area as listed above. lIo•:,•wr, <br />there is a significant variation in proportions of each. 'Piu <br />sprayed portion is dominated by the grass component wi tip I;'.;;L~~ <br />fescue, pine needlegrass and various wheatgrasses making up ~hc <br />major portion of the vegetative composition. ' <br />The dry mountain loam 'range site occupies the gently slop]ng to <br />the steeper hillsides within the proposed lease area. Portions <br />of this site also falls within the aerially sprayed area anc:l~nvn <br />somewhat. the same vegetative characteristics as the mountain. ]oam . <br />site described previously. The non-sprayed portion is main <br />dominated by the shrub component of. big sagebrush and rabu:.tbrush <br />with an understory cgmposed of bluebunch wheatl;rass (Ar,r~wrrnn <br />spicatum), Idaho fescue, mutton bluegrass and various uheaC•,;rasses, <br />while the sprayed portion is dominated by bluebunch whcatgr:na, <br />mutton bluegrass and various wheatgrasses. <br />The drainage bottom site occupies the area along Eush and Williams <br />Draw. The hydrologic characteristics of this area is what clc- <br />liniates it from other sites within the proposed lease area. <br />Runoff and a high water table provide the mediwa Eor a plant com- <br />munity dominated by Carex and Juncus Spp. Other important grass <br />species found in this site are: tufted hairgrass (lleschampsia <br />caespitosa), muhly (Atuhlenbergia Spp.) and various wheatgrasses. <br />This site also has a diverse forb component consisting of silver <br />cinquefoil (Potentilla ansarina), Roclcy Mountain iris (Ii_is <br />missouriensis), pussytoes (Antannaria Spp.), thistle (Cirsiwu Spp.), <br />daisy (Hrigeron Spp.) and buttercup (lranunculus Spp.). <br />The clay pan range site consists of clay pockets that are f:cund <br />on the nearly level to gentle slopes. These areas support a sparse, <br />low appearing shrub dominated community.. Alkali sagebrush <br />(Artemisia longiloba) is the dominate, shrub species with lota <br />rabbitbrush also being quite preveTant. Pine needlegrass, sanclnerg <br />bluegrass, squirreltail and western! wheat-grass are the principal <br />grass species. <br />T',ie valley bench range site occupies Che Uroad staeeping benchlands. <br />This site contains a grassland-sagebrush plant coumcuniCy. Cluc.l:uncle <br />wheatgrass, mutton bluegrass and June grass arc Che mosC frogn,~nCly <br />occurring grasses.
