EXHIBIT I (Cont'd)
1
The soil generally blends smoothly into the adjacent
'
soils of the Fondis, Nemlin, Sampson, and Truckton
' Series and, for salvage purposes, could be considered
part of those soils. The only areas where soil should
' not be salvaged would be in the sandy stream course
where, generally, all soil has been removed anyway.
1
Salvage of 12 to 18 inches is feasible in most areas
' and presents no hazards.
' 10. Existing Overburden and Topsoil Stockpiles - Overburden
materials are generally of a very sandy nature and
' even become gravelly in places. The topsoil stockpiles
are highly variable and range from an excellent loam
' to a mixture of sand and clay. It would be preferable
' to keep the overgurden and the soil as separate as
possible to avoid degradation of the soil by the
' sterility of the sand.
' In summary, there does not appear to be any difficulty with
the quantity or quality of existing soils on the site and by
' saving 12" of the material, excepting the very thin and eroded
Newlin soils, there should be sufficient plant growth medium to
' reclaim all the affected lands.
' The existing mine area presents the greatest problem; but
if the soils already stockpiled are kept separate from the
' overburden and the soils are to a degree mixed during spreading,

- 29 -
1
