4-8
The surfaces of the alluvial deposits in all side valleys do
• not carry any traces of agricultural use in the past except
possibly for grazing. In narrow valleys of the northern part,
the vegetation does not show any important difference compared
with the vegetation of the uplands. Both consist mostly of
sagebrush and sparse grasses.
No agricultural use except for grazing can be identified on
the surface of the side valleys within the southern part of
the area, as these parts have traditionally not been irriga-
ted, and agricultural use has been obviously limited.
4.1.3.4.4 Significance to Farming
The proposed operation will disturb approximately 78 acres
of various vegetation types. This property was originally
part of the Ed Young Ranch which consists of approximately
225,000 acres. Presently, Mr. Young runs approximately 793
animal units or 9,516 animal unit months on his property.
•
For ease of calculation, it is assumed that all of the dis-
turbance, except the 9.9 acres of juniper woodland, is within
the AVF. Based on this assumption, approximately 68 acres of
AVF will be disturbed, resulting in a loss in production of
4.57 animal limits or 54.81 aminal unit months.
