4-2
4.1.3 Alluvial Valley Floor
u
4.1.3.1 General
Alluvial valley floors (AVF) in the vicinity of the proposed
central facilities were identified and those that might be
impacted were studied and evaluated by Geo-Hydro Consulting,
Inc. in 1981.
The area of the study covers the valley of East Salt Creek
from a point located about a half mile north of the confluence
of the McClane Creek with the main valley (from the northern
end of Section 21) to a point one and one third miles from
the confluence of the Munger Canyon (to the southern end of
Section 31).
The study also covers the side valleys on both sides of the
East Salt Creek valley.
• 9.1.3.2 Method of Study
The preliminary identification of AVF was performed in two
phases:
° Office study and review of aerial photographs.
Sets of low altitude color, black and white,
and infrared photographs of the area were
utilized in the study.
° Field reconnaissance and mapping was performed
to delineate the alluvial valley floors and
other geomorphic units in the area.
Geomorphic mapping of the area and the evaluation of the AVF
were supplemented by the excavation of five test pits located
at different points, mostly in the side valleys of East Salt
Creek. In addition to these test pits, results of ground-
water measurements from five monitoring wells located close
to the confluence of the Munger Canyon Creek and in the side
• valley where the waste pile is to be located were used for
the purpose of the study.
