Tree species to be planted will include Pinyon
• Pine and Utah Juniper.
Whereas the same wide seed mix will be applied to all areas, woody
plants will be placed differentially with respect to original
community composition. The disturbances in the Greasewood
Shrubland and Shadscale Saltbush are relatively small; the return
of the current dense shrub cover to these areas is not necessary
for the preservation of the value of these sites to wildlife.
The reasons for this conclusion are twofold. First, Shadscale is
too low a shrub to serve as potential nest sites for birds and is
not a major winter browse species for herbivorous mammals.
Second, although of some value for nest sites, Greasewood is of
such poor forage quality that the creation of more productive,
herbaceous-dominated open areas within the Greasewood area
1/17/86
