Ui G:a[Yt~l ".e~~!uC2°
lVe plan to mine the natural sand and gravel deposit from the
proposed pit site, crush, process and stockpile the resulting
aggregates at the site. The processed aggregates will be removed
from the pit site as crushed gravel, plant mix bituminous pavement
and pit run gravel as the demand for these products warrant.
The first phase of the mining operation consists of stripping
the topsoil which ranges in depth from zero to three feet and
stockpiling it for use during the reclamation process.
The second phase of the mining oepration will consist of
mining of the natural sand and gravel and stockpiling the resultin;
aggregate. The mining will be accomplished by one or a combination
of the following two methods:
A. The aggregate will be excavated from the pit
with a front end loader into rock trucks and
taken to a stockpile area.
B. Excavated from the pit with a backhoe and
loaded into rock trucks.
Due to the high water table in the area, approximately three
feet below existing ground surface, the pit oepration will require
dewatering to mine the full depth of the gravel deposit which is
approximately eighteen feet. Dewatering will be accomplished by
digging a sump in one corner and pumping into the Gunnison River.
Pumping will be in accordance with our Discharge Permit No. CO-0033863,
of which a copy is enclosed.
The material will be taken from the stockpile and crushed into
several gradations to make aggregate for road base materials and
aggregate for bituminous pavement. The crushing operation will not
be conducted on a permanent basis but on a demand basis as the need
for material dictates.
The area to be worked will be broken up into four phases, with
each phase covering an area of approximately eight to twelve acres.
~• Mining will begin in the existing pit site and continue in a counter-
clockwise direction from Phase I through Phase IV.
