RESPONSE: <br />The permit area contains several thin, discontinuous coal seams, most of <br />which are not considered mineable. These small coal seams are too thin <br />and discontinuous to be considered mineable both from an economic and <br />feasible standpoint. The location of these minor seams are shown on the <br />Geologic Cross Sections A-A' and B-B" (Map 8) where possible to be <br />identified. Thin or discontinuous seams are typical in the Menefee <br />Formation given the lenticular nature of the stratigraphy of this <br />formation. <br />No water levels are available for the drill hole logs. Because drilling <br />was conducted in the late 1970's, no thought or emphasis was placed on <br />determining water levels. In addition, these wells have been sealed and <br />are not available for any water measurements at this time. <br />6. Page 2.04-15 states that there are no potential problems with the <br />this statement is not correct and the data should be re-evaluated <br />with regard to potentia acid-forming and toxic-forming su stances. <br />RESPONSE: <br />During the meeting held in Denver on March 11, 1985, Peerless Resources, <br />Inc. and the Division reached the conclusion that there are no <br />acid-forming or toxic-forming substances found in the overburden or <br />interburden analyses. <br />7. Paqe 2.04-15 states that overburden and interburden samples were <br />ootaineo or where tnev were ootainea tram. finis snouio oe <br />RESPONSE: <br />The overburden and interburden samples were obtained along the exposed <br />highwall created by previous Arness-McGriffin mining activities. These <br />. samples were obtained by grab sample techniques; that is, samples were <br />chipped away frdm above the "A" Coal Seam and below the "A" Coal Seam. <br />Samples were composited and placed in "Ziploc" bags; they were <br />-15- <br />
