•
RESPONSE
As mentioned above, Peerless Resources, Inc. does not dispute the fact
that subsurface water is found in the permit and adjacent areas.
However, the subsurface water is found in extremely limited quantities.
No wells have ever been developed within the permit area. Therefore,
Peerless Resources, Inc. respectfully submits that there indeed is a
lack of useable and substantial quantities of groundwater in the
proposed permit area.
5. When was the mapping of springs and seeps accomplished? Have a
surveys for springs and seeps been done during spring runoff?
RESPONSE:
The mapping for springs and seeps originally was completed during the
summer of 1984. None were identified during this time; however, some
amount of water was coming from the old underground coal mine workings
located in the permit area.
In March of 1985, another spring and seep survey was conducted. At this
time, the pipe emanating from the old underground coal mine workings was
discharging water at a rate of approximately 20 to 25 gallons per
minute. Coal Gulch was also running at this time at an estimated 1-2
cubic feet per second. Because the ground was either covered by snow or
saturated during the March 1985 visit, it was impossible to identify any
springs and seeps.
6.
