area. Since underground mining has occurred in this region since the
• early 1900's, any water percolating through the strata will undoubtedly
find its way into underground workings and may eventually discharge to
the surface. Also, it is possible that some of the groundwater that
percolates into the strata in the permit is undoubtly trapped in perched
water tables.

2. Because
Lightner Creek colluvium material and the associated wells located in
this area will not be affected by the planned Coal Gulch mining
operations, water tables have not been identified. The wells along
Lightner Creek are used for domestic purposes of the homes found in this
valley.
3.
The ualit of subsurface water in all wells should be resented if
avai a e. ater avai a i it ~n t ese we s sou a so e
ad resse .
RESPONSE:
The wells along Lightner Creek are used for domestic purposes.
