This will allow some additional reclamation grading, spreading of
topsoil, grading, preparation and seeding to take place on the eastern and
western edges of the permit area in Year 5 while mining continues, and prepare
for final reclamation at the end of Year 5 or in Year 6. This may allow early
removal and use of materials in Stockpiles S5 and S6.
STOCKPILE CONSTRUCTION:
TOPSOIL: Topsoil will be stockpiled immediately after removal, and after year
one, following screening. Stockpiles will be 40 feet wide, 20 feet high, have a
maximum slope of 1:1, and will be prepared, seeded, and mulched as they are
completed. As stripping will generally be done in late summer or early fall,
immediately prior to mining, seeding would be done in the fall, as recommended
by NRCS.
"WASTE": Fines from washing and screening, after drying (if required) will also
be stockpiled in the same manner as topsoil, though seeding may be done in the
spring if stockpiled too late in the fall to meet NRCS recommendations. As with
topsoil, these stockpiles wi{I be around the perimeter of the site, convenient for
reclamation. These fines will be able to be treated and used as soil, for
reclamation, especially after mulching and seeding, but may require some soil
amendments if used on the surface.
RAW AND PROCESSED MATERIALS: Stockpiles of raw and processed
materials will be located in the areas used for locating the processing (crushing,
screening, and washing) plants.
GENERAL: Stockpile areas are placed where the material will be available for
reclamation at the end of the project with minimum movement and re-handling.
There may be some very temporary stockpiles for topsoil and waste material,
located at various convenient locations on the floor of the pit, in the plant area, or
in stripped areas, where materials are put during stripping and mining at the
beginning of each year's operations, before the materials are screened and
placed in their long-term locations.
TABLE D-2.
