In addition to indicated affected are<~, air
ventilation openings, as required by State underground mining
requirements and as needed for worker safety, will occasionally
occur. These will be promptly screened from visual v:_ew, as
opened.
Question #2--What is the slope now?
Answer #2--As noted on the Mining Plan, the slopes at the
present time vary from 1:1 to 3:1.
Question #3--Slopes on high wall.
Answer #3--Assuming the information requested here relates to
that area around and over the entrance to the underground mine,
this slope is approximately 85°.
Question #4--When will they start reclamation?
~ Answer #4--For purposes of this project, "reclamation" is
defined in two stages. The first stage involves the creation
of the "sight and sound" berms along the southerly and easterly
boundaries of the permit area. These berms are to be created
from waste or by-products of the quarrying process, then covered
with stored topsoil, then planted with recommended plant species
to begin the succession process. Due to their very nature, it
is expected that these berms will become the primary "sight"
reclamation for the Quarry, and will remain in place indefinitely.
Originally expected to be formed relatively fast due to market
demands for product, these estimates have now been revised,
and, with a reasonable margin allowed for uncertain market con-
ditions, may not be "completed" (built, soiled, planted with
vegetation) for as long as ten years.
The second stage of "reclamation" will involve the approximate
25 acres lying behind the berms, from which access is gained
to the balance of the 80-acre extractive site through under-
ground mining. touch of this area can expect to be actively
involved in the extractive process for most of the lif~a of the
Quarry, since adit tunnels lead into the underground d~=_posit
from the benches. At about the same time the berms aria "com-
pleted", it is estimated that re-vegetation can begin on the
uppermost of the benches and faces, thus increasing thc~ "sight
reclamation" effect of the berms. See the Estimated Reclama-
tion Plan Timetable.
C) Reclamation Plan:
Question #1--NO mention of topsoil put back on. Soil i_est
should be taken.
