• ~ks and Gesso, LLC <br />EXHIBIT I -SOILS INFORMATION <br />There are primarily two soil types within the area proposed for mining, as <br />delineated by the USDA Soil Conservation Service's Soil Survey of Adams <br />County in 1974. As shown by the accompanying Soils Map, Vona Sandy Loam, <br />0 to 1 percent slopes is the principle soil type in the eastern half of the proposed <br />permitted area; and Dacono Loam, 0 to 1 percent slopes, is the principle soil type <br />in the western half of the proposed permitted area. <br />Dacono Loam. 0 to 1 percent slopes (DaA). The Dacono soils are well drained, <br />nearly level soils on terraces, formed in loamy alluvium that overlies sand and <br />gravelly alluvial materials. Although the proposed mining site has been <br />extensively mined in the past, disturbing the natural placement of soil, the typical <br />profile of Dacono Loam includes agrayish-brown, noncalcareous, surface layer <br />of approximately 9 inches. The upper subsoil is typically 8 inches of grayish- <br />brown, noncalcareous clay, above approximately 5 inches of calcareous, <br />brownish-gray sandy clay loam. Lime in this subsoil is often visible as white <br />splotches. Underlying material is approximately 22 inches thick and includes an <br />upper part of coarse sandy clay loam containing about 10 percent fine and <br />medium gravel, and below that, loose sand and gravel to a depth of <br />approximately 35 inches. Dacono soils absorb water slowly, are slowly <br />permeable, and have moderate water capacity. These soils are suitable for roots <br />to a depth of about 24 inches. <br />Dacono Loam, 0 to 1 percent slopes contains 5 to 15 percent gravel in the <br />surface layer and subsoil and has a sand and gravel layer between depths of 20 <br />and 40 inches. Runoff is slow, and the hazard of water erosion is slight; but the <br />hazard of soil blowing is moderate, if exposed soil is not protected.
