When the highest seasonal ground <br />water levels have been determined, a watertable con- <br />tour map can be prepared to aid in determining the final <br />elevations for extracting gravel. <br />3 . Due to capillary rise and a shallow water table, eva- <br />poration can still occur even though the water table is <br />not exposed. Research at Colorado State University <br />(Hydrology Paper No. 7, 1965) has indicated that eva- <br />poration from the water table can occur in a fine sand <br />if the water table is at a depth less than 24 to 30 inches <br />below the soil surface. Depending upon the gradation <br />of the material in this mining operation, it would appee,r <br />that the final elevation of the land surface should be <br />kept approximately 2 to 3 feet above the highest ex- <br />pected water table elevation. <br />4.
