GEIB, WELD COUNTY, APPLICATION FOR MINING AND <br />RECLAMATION PERMIT <br />This is to acknowledge receipt of material pertaining to the above <br />referenced application. As requested, I have reviewed the water <br />resource aspects of the mining operation and the following commelits <br />are presented for your consideration: <br />1 . The applicant states that the gravel will not be <br />mined below the water table so that ground water <br />will not be exposed to evaporation. While I be- <br />lieve this is a desirable method of attempting to <br />minimize the impact upon the prevailing hydrologic <br />balance of the area, I do not believe sufficient <br />information has been provided in order to recommend <br />approval unless certain conditions are imposed <br />upon the applicant. <br />2. These conditions would primarily involve obtaining <br />the ground water information on the property in- <br />cluding fluctuations in the water table elevations <br />resulting from precipitation, irrigation return flows, <br />and well pumping. Several inexpensive observation <br />wells should be constructed on the perimeter of the <br />property so that monthly static water elevations <br />C.J. KUIPER <br />State Engineer <br />
