• •
' EXHIBIT D (Cont'd)
1
The sand and gravel below the shallow soil and overburden
' varies i n thickness from 23 to 51 feet. Exploratory holes were
' drilled in January 1972 and March 1973. The sand and gravel
deposit is underlain by a relatively impermeable shale. The
' shale acts as a bottom for the pit throughout the excavation area.
Processing equipment may include, but is not limited to,
crushers, screens, screw washer, log washer, sand classifier,
trommel screen and conveyors. The equipment will be operated
i ^ in compliance with air pollution standards. If required, a ~ ~.,'
' Colorado Department of Health Emission Control Permit will be -='~*-l`~"`~_
obtained.
Fencing, currently required by Adams County, will be
installed before operations begin. The fence will be the pre-
' scribed 72-inch chain link with three strands of outward-
' canting (45°) barbed wire at the top.
The small amount of water to be used in dust control and
' plant operation is highly variable since operating days, windy
i days, rainy days and number of affected acres fluctuate drama-
' tically. See Exhibit G for detail of water conditions.
The operator's intention is to minimize disturbances to
the prevailing hydrologic balance of the affected land and of
the surrounding area and to the quality and quantity of water
in surface and ground water systems during and after the mining
' operation.

- 8 -
1
