• • XHIBIT D (Cont'd)
'
Soils vary in thickness from zero to one foot in a highly V
' irregular pattern across the affected land. Sand strata from
three recent floods are readily observed. The soils which are „~
~ resent will be se
re
at
d carefull
d
th
k
il
d
t
, p
g
g
e
y an
e
s
oc
p
e
on
' setback areas and, if necessary, a hold cover of western wheat- /~
grass will be used to minimize wind and water erosion as well
as deterioration of the soil.
The sand and gravel will be mined by dragline in a wet
i' environment. No pumping to dewater or to lower the water level
will be necessary. Since there will be no dewatering, no NPDES
'
permit is required. Likewise,:
there will be no effect on wells
?
in the area ~
The dragline will work back and forth in~a row
pattern, from north to south in the width of the stage. The
_ ......
row staging will start on the west side of the property and work
to the east (see map Exhibit D-1).

Mining equipment used may include, but is not limited to,
dragline, bulldozers, front-end loader, scraper, conveyor
system, dump truck and water truck.
t In a dragline operation the perimeter can either be sloped
' at 3 to 1 during the mining operation or left nearly vertical
and shaped to a 3 to 1 slope during the reclamation phase. In
' most instances 3 to 1 slopes will be created during the mining
operation. However, some of the perimeter will be sloped with
overburden, waste rock and silt.

1
- y -
1
