7. ~e 2.04-15 states that overburden and interburden samples were
obtaine but oes not go into etai on how t ese samp es were
obtained or where the were obtained from. This should be
a resse in t e permit app ication.
• RESPONSE:
The overburden and interburden samples were obtained along the exposed
highwall created by previous Arness-McGriffin mining activities. These
samples were obtained by grab sample techniques; that is, samples were
chipped away from above the "A" Coal Seam and below the "A" Coal Seam.
Samples were composited and placed in "Ziploc" bags; they were
immediately shipped to Bookcliffs Commercial Laboratories in Steamboat
Springs for analyses. The samples were collected by Alan Czarnowsky of
ACZ Inc. during the summer of 1984.
9. Section 4.05.8 of the permit application states that there are no
potential acid-forming or toxic-forming overburden present. This
is not correct, see comment 7 under Section 2.04.6 above, this
section should be revised when addressing the above referenced
comment.
• RESPONSE:
As mentioned earlier, Peerless Resources, Inc. and the Division have
agreed that there are no acid-forming or toxic-forming overburden or
underburden material surrounding the "A" Coal Seam present. This
situation was clarified in the discussion under Section 2.04.6 response
found above.
-16-
•
MAR 0 4 1986
2,oy-ISG~
