Because the abandoned <br />workings dip to the south, any water encountered in the mine would drain <br />toward the portals. No water has been encountered draining from the old <br />workings of the Victory No. 2 Mine which extracted the "C" Coal Seam. A <br />pond currently exists in the final strip pit created by the past mining <br />activities of Arness-McGriffin Coal Company; however, most of the water <br />• found in this pond is thought to be as a result of surface runoff. Some <br />water in this pond may seep from the old abandoned Victory #1 Mine and <br />the Sunshine Mine, but it is probably minor in comparison to surface <br />water inflow. No water outflow or seepage has been noted from the <br />abandoned workings of the OK #i Mine. None of the old records for the <br />Victory No. 1 Mine, the Victory No. 2 Mine, the Sunshine Mine, or the OK <br />#1 Mine indicate any occurrence of groundwater during operations. <br />The data obtained to date by Peerless Resources for the planned Coal <br />Gulch Mine indicates that the area to be mined is void of any major <br />amounts of groundwater. Any groundwater occurrences in this area are <br />probably not continuous but rather a series of perched systems. In <br />addition, the area of development of any groundwater is limited because <br />Lightner Creek to the north has carved massive bluffs which would limit <br />the recharge capabilities.
