WESTSIDE GRAVEL, LLC, WESTSIDE GRAVEL, FILE NO. M-2003-003
PAGE 2
the application prior to the construction and operation of this gravel pit. The applicant has shown the
stages in which the gravel pit is to be developed and mined in the previous proposal for the county. The
CDOW would like to see how the area would be reclaimed once the gravel mining operation is
completed. We would suggest that the applicant use a seed mixture that consists of native grasses,
fortis and shrubs that are beneficial to wildlife. If the applicant needs ideas or help in developing such a
mixture, he can contact Chris Kloster, the CDOW's area habitat biologist, for help.
The CDOW appreciated commenting on this project and the applicant's consideration to include wildlife
as an important planning component in the development and operation of this gravel pit operation. If
you, your agency or the applicant have any questions or additional information to provide, please
contact Kloster or myself at the Durango Area Office at 247 - 0855.
Sincerely,
~~1~
Melody Miller
District Wildlife Manager
Cc: Westside Gravel -- Rick Shaw
Enclosure: CDOW comment letter dated 10/07/02 for Johnson Class II Gravel Pit for Westside
Gravel
