2.06 REQUIREMENTS FOR PERMITS FOR SPECIAL
CATEGORIES OF MINING
The CCM#1 did not use any experimental or special mining practices which were out of the
ordinary from a typical surface mine where topsoil and subsoil were salvaged, overburden
was stockpiled, and coal was removed. The mine did not conduct mountaintop removal,
steep slope, or auger type mining. Following mining, all lands were reclaimed to
approximate original contour. There were no coal processing or refuse disposal facilities
located at this mine. A summary of the prime farmland and alluvial valley floor require-
ments are discussed below.
2.06.6 Prime Farmlands
This subsection is not applicable to the mine since a negative determination of prime
farmland was arrived at using the eligibility requirements established for prime farmland
under Section 2.04.12, Prime Farmland Investigation. These performance standards do not
apply to the present permit application.
2.06.8 Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation Operations on Areas or Adjacent to
Areas Using Alluvial Valley Floors
• The field investigation described in subsection 2.04.7, Hydrology Description, resulted in no
identification of alluvial valley floors in the general area which could be affected by the
mining operations. Therefore, no special performance standards for operations in alluvial
valley floors are applicable to this mining permit application and no protective or remedial
measures are proposed for compliance with this part.
A field investigation of both the Maitland Arroyo and the Gordan Arroyo was conducted
in the mine plan area and adjacent areas to determine the possibility of any alluvial valley
floors. This investigation and evaluation resulted in no identification of alluvial valley floors
in or adjacent to the mine plan area based on geomorpholic and water availability criteria,
and further that no alluvia] valley floors which might exist in the general area will be
adversely affected by mining operations.
•
2.06-1
