• Water quality standards and effluent limitations at the operation is regulated by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, the Colorado Department of Health under the terms of
the NPDES Permit and by the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. The applicable
effluent limitations have been met by using treatment methods which include prompt
revegetation, stabilizing backfill, appro~dtnate sediment retention, use of contour furrows,
sediment ponds and if necessary, strategically placed energy dissipators, such as riprap, check
dams, mulches, filters, and dugouts. As indicated in Exhibit 6, revegetation and sediment
control measures have controlled runoff and sediment transport to a level which warranted
removal of the sediment control system and suspension of the hydrologic monitoring
program (TR-10).
The chemical characteristics of the overburden is presented under Section 2.04.6. The
results of this testing is presented in Table 3, Overburden Analysis. Because of the SAR
values inherent in the overburden found in the mine plan area, a minimum total of four feet
of iow SAR overburden, subsoil and topsoil was placed upon the regraded backfilled areas.
Due to the small area mined at the site, no impacts to groundwater recharge or quality were
detected. Groundwater recharge to the aquifer in the mine area occurs in the cedar-covered
hills to the west. No water users were affected by the mining which occurred on the site.
Protection of Public Parks and Historic Places
• There are no public parks or historic places within the permit or adjacent areas of the mine.
Surface Mining Near Underground Mining
There will be no surface mining near the underground mines located adjacent to the area
previously mined.
The remaining portions of this part of 2.05.6 do not apply in that the CCM#1 is a surface
mining operation.

2.05-9
