• of the site disturbed by mining. The reference area is shown on the Vegetation Map (Map 2).
This reference area is approximately 3 acres in size and is given the identical kind of management
found on adjacent areas of the same type. The premining land use of the mine plan is described
in Section 2.04.3. Vegetation sampling within the proposed reference area and reclaimed area will
be conducted utilizing point-intercept transects and production plots. Cover data for the area will
be collected using 25-meter transects. Each transect will have a total of 50 data points.
Production data will be taken by clipping 0.50 meter square plots. The plot frames will be placed
randomly throughout the azea to be sampled. Plants will be separated by species, clipped and oven
dried for weighing. The sampling will be done at an intensity that will satisfy the 90% confidence
interval for the grassland type vegetation. Data will be collected throughout the one liability
period to determine when vegetative cover equals that of undisturbed areas and when grazing
required under Section 2.05.5 is to be started.
In order to adjust for the effects of climatic conditions, such as precipitation and temperature on
plant growth, a correlation method will be employed whereby cover and production figures on the
disturbed area will be correlated with the values obtained on the designated reference areas. As
delineated in Section 2.04.10, no premine productivity data had been collected on the site;
however, during the summer of 1980 productivity data was collected in aeeas so that this data may
be available when determining postmining reclamation success. The premising cover and
productivity values were correlated with the pooled averages from the permanent reference areas.
Cover and productivity for the reclaimed sites can then be predicted to show the cover and
productivity that probably would have existed had the site not been mined.
Approved reclamation success standards are summarized below:
Cover. Vegetation cover will be restored on the disturbed areas to 90 percent of the vegetation
reference area.
Production. Vegetation production will be restored on the disturbed areas to 90 percent of the
vegetation reference area.
Species Diversity. Establish two perennial cool season grasses and two perennial forbs with at
least 3 %, but less than 40% relative cover, and any combination of perennial warm season grasses
with at least 6% relative cover and no upper limit.
Assessment methods for revegetation success are described in Exhibit 6 and will comply with the
guidelines of the CDMG. Assessments will be conducted in years 4 or 5, 7, 9, and 10. Years 9
and 10 will also incorporate the grazing assessment to determine the capability to sustain the post-
mining land use.

2.05-5 Revised 6/16/98
m~-/o
