RESPONSE TO MISCII,LANFAUS QUESTIONS IN
NOVE?IDII2 1, 1991 LETTER
The following responses are provided for items that did not actually fit
into the main format of this response. All other items in the November 1,
1991 letter are discussed in the preceding information.
ITEl7 8: C<alverts: There is only one true culvert on the site and that is the
72" steel culvert that extends under Academy Boulevard and carries the
Fountain Mutual Irrigation Ditch. The road tunnel under Academy Boulevard
could act as a culvert, but this structure will remain. The tunnel was built
in 1972 when Academy was extended southward through this area. Its removal
would be impossible without total disruption of traffic on Academy Boulevard.
The only way it could be eliminated would be to fill the tunnel completely
with sand, rock, or some other material.
Other culverts on the site connect some of the old sediment basins, but ~
these are no longer needed or functional and are not generally exposed. These
were generally small in dimension and provided overflow routes between ,
sediment basins. They never served any function for storm water drainage from
the operation. Storm water collects in depressions and usually seeps into the
ground very quickly.
Item 9: Diversion and/or collection ditches that will be reclaimed:
None exist on site that serve this purpose. Any incidental drainage
routes from the pit to adjacent lands are not through such controlled
structures. It is believed that sheet flow provides the most rapid means of
controlling runoff because it provides the greatest surface area for seepage
into the ground. Therefore, any diversions or collection ditches that locally
direct drainage away from buildings or equipment so the water can merge with a
general sheet flow pattern will be reclaimed as part of the backfilling and/or
grading process and should be covered by those costs.
Item 13: Buried tanks: There are no buried tanks on site.
Page 16 Bonding Information M-73-007/M-77-213 January 7, 1992
