At thirteen sample points wrthin the property the three crderia were evaluated. Dominant
individual plant species were identified, and their wetland indicator status was assessed at
each sample point (CTSFWS, 1988). Evidence of the hydrologic regime at the sample
point was collected and evahratod. A sort test pit was dug using a bucket auger to a depth
of at least 18 inches. The sort horizons were inspected and described using texture, soil
color (Kollmorgeq 1992), and moisttrre. Observations were recorded on USACE
approved data sheets, and are attached in the Appead'nc. Color photographs of sevesal of
the jmisdictional wetlands were taken and are being maintained in the permanent data file
wrth the original field data sheets.
Sample point locations were located through distance and bearing measurements to the
established reference points.
RESULTS
Jurisdictional 1Wdlands
Jurisdictional wetlands were identified and mapped in several locations within the
property. Each area of jurisdictional wetlands is briefly described below. The individual
areas are depicted on the attached map. The total area of jurisdictional wetlands within
the properly was 30.70 acres.
A. Bitf Thompson River
Jurisdictional wetlands along the Big Thompson River extend the length of the river on the
Croissant property from County Road 54 southeast to the property boundary and include
areas along the banks of the channel, low-lying sandbars, sloughs, and mud8ats. These
areas are continually or seasonally inundated or saturated depending on the water level in
the channel.
B. Taihvater Drainage R'etlands
The taawater wetlands are located along the south edge of the Croissant property and
along the southeast edge of the l.meen property. Both sedge/rush Swale and wet meadow
vegetation communities dominated these drainages. Water from irrigated Tarmlands on the
secondary terrace above supplies the irrigation tar7water wetlands.
C. Relict Ozbows or Historic Channels Wetlands
Relict oxbows and historic channels aze located within the north half of both properties.
SedgeJrush Swale wetlands aze found within these depressions made by the historic
meandering of the Big Thompson River. Irrigation tailwater drainages above these
depressions affect the hydrology and may supply some of the water for these wetlands.
_~
