<br />AzxroR.T c~nvII. P1T <br />sECrION Iz <br />Soil Inventory <br />St - Fort Collins Clay Imam, 0-3% slopes <br /> <br />This is a deep, well drained soil. Typically the surface layer is <br />clay loam 12 inches thick. The upper 11 inches of the subsoil is <br />clay loam, and the lower 7 inches is loam. The substratum to a <br />depth o£ 60 inches or more is very fine sandy loam. The soil is <br />mildly alkaline to a depth of 12 inches and is moderately alkaline <br />and calcareous below this depth, Permeability is iroderately slow, <br />available water capacity is high. <br />MzB - Nlanzanola silty clay loam, 1 to 4% slopes <br />This soil is deep and well drained. Typically, the surface layer <br />is silty clay loam 5 inches thick. The subsoil is silty clay loam <br />21 inches thick. The upper 14 inches of the substratum is silty <br />clay loam, the next 6 inches is silt loam, and the lower part to <br />a depth of 60 inches or mare is silty clay loam. The soil is cal- <br />careous, moderately alkaline, and slightly saline throughout. <br />Permeability is slow and available water capacity is high. <br />SECTION III <br />Vegetative Inventory <br />Range Site Descriptions <br />Iv Plains (L.P.) - Moderately well developed loamy soils of this <br />site t ce in sumrier moisture reasonably well. The dominant grasses, <br />Blue grams, and galleta respaid quickly and may produce in a fawr- <br />able year up to 1000 pounds forage per acre. Western Wheat, Side <br />oats grams, fourwing saltbush, Indian rice grass and winterfat, make <br />up ranainder of the plant commaaiity. Production is almost entirely <br />dependent an sum[ner moisture. Stands of cholla cactus are present <br />in score areas. <br />SECTION IV <br />Climate and Elevation <br />Average annual precipitation for this area is approximately 16 inches. <br />Nine (9) inches will normally occur from Nay through September and <br />seven (7) inches is the average from October through April. <br />
