RE: Seeding Mixture/Reclamation Guidelines for Myrin Pit near Toponas

After reading through the SCS information supplied, I have developed the
following seed mixture. This mixture is an adaptation of our District 3
Seeding Manual mixture for Zone 3.
The following is a sequential list of steps to follow in the reclamation
process.
1) Establish pit limits and allow room for topsoil that is stripped
off the surface to be stockpiled.
2) Flatten slopes, bury oversized material or remove it from the site.

3) The surface of the subsoil material should be left in a roughened
condition to allow topsoil to bind together with it.
4) Topsoil shall be redistributed in a uniform depth. The site should
then be worked with an implement such as a disk or spring-tooth
harrow to a depth of (4-6") four to six inches. This is the time
to distribute the fertilizer so that it may be worked into the soil.
5) Fertilizer such as Ammonium phosphate sulphate (16-20-0) applied at
a rate of 300 LBS per acre will provide sufficient nutrient. This
material should be applied just prior to seeding and worked into soil.
6) Seed bed should be firm but not packed.

7) Drill seed or if broadcast double the rate and use a harrow or drag
chains to cover seed approximately ~ to 3/4 of an inch deep.
8) Mulch either with lZ tons/ac of native grasshay or 2 tons of clean straw
that is of sufficient length to be crimped into the soil.
9) Protect area from people, livestock, and vehicles until seedlings are
established.
