~~. • • (III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
A REPORT FOR THE
KILGROE ATCHISON GRAVEL MINING PERMIT
General Report
The general description of the property as it is now consists
of three ponds on the property along the eastern edge of the prop-
erty. The gravel crushing and stock pile area is in the middle toward
the center of the property in between the two ponds. There is a
residential home on the site along with a small shop and the house
itself. There is some existing general wildlife; the owner of the
property has wild geese on the first pond which is maintained by him
and along the western edge of the property there exists grassland where
there is approximately five head of horses grazing. The Plat River
runs along the western edge of the property line. There has been mining
in this area for the last 25 years with some work still being done on
both ponds; the north and the south along the east edge. The mining
is being done with the drag line method. Then the gravel is stock-
piled for drainage, then loaded. The gravel is then taken to the crusher,
and stockpiled until needed. It is then loaded and hauled out on
trucks to its destination. A major portion of the mining has been
completed on lake one. There is a dike that runs through lake #1
that will be mined out in the upcoming years. There is also a small
peninsula on lake two that will be built with the extra material in
the upcoming years. All of the grading being done will be done at a
3 to 1 slope or less. At no time will the slope be greater than 2 to 1
at any point. All grading will be done in a manner to control erosion
and siltation of the affected lands. All back filling and grading
shall be completed as soon as feasible after the mining process is
completed. The majority of the property will return to pasture land
and possibly some residential sites toward the easterly part of the
parcel bf land. The lakes will be private recreation sites only. All
stock piles, crusher, and equipment will be removed. Top soil was
stocked from the beginning of the mining and will be spread over the
major disturbance areas concentrating mainly on the steeper slopes.
The revegetation of the area will consist of various mixtures of
grass. The wet areas will be seeded with these varieties of grasses:
Western Wheat Grass - 3.5 pounds per acre
Stream Bank Wheat Grass - 2.0 pounds per acre
Tall Wheat Grass - 4.0 pounds per acre
TOTAL - 9.5 pounds per acre
(Pure Live Seed/Acre)
This amount will be doubled if the seeding process should be broad-
casted rather than drilled.
