Section 816.89 (a) Continued.
anu other combustibles generated during surface mining activities shall
be placed and stored in a controlled manner in a designated portion of
the permit area. Placement and storage shall ensure that leachate and
surface runoff do not degrade surface or ground water, fires are pre-
vented, and that the area remains stable and suitable for reclamation
and revegetation compatible with the natural surroundings.
Solid wastes generated from mining activities such as garbage waste
and used paper products are disposed of in large trash "dumpsters"
located at the mine office, the shop facilities, and the construc-
tion/erection site (east of the shop). A contract garbage hauling
service empties the contents of the "dumpsters" twice a week and
hauls the garbage to the Sown of Oak Creek dump and landfill. A
conscientious attempt is made by all individuals at the mining
operation to dispose of mine-related garbage in the "dumpsters".
A series of three rubber-lined ponds located adjacent to the shop
•~ facilities at Energ}' PSine No. 1 are used for disposal of any used
lubricants or oil from the equipment. These ponds are constructed
with compacted clay material and rubberized liner to prevent any
leaching into the ground. Periodically, the used lubricants or
oils are removed from the lined ponds with a pump truck and hauled
to the crushing and load-out facility (Tipple No. 2) where they are
sprayed onto the coal to increase the effective BTU value. Siphons
have been installed connecting the 3 lined ponds so that if any
excessive precipitation occurs only water would be discharged from
the final pond. A series of parallel wires with approximately 5 to
10-foot spacing have been strungacross the pond with orange flagging
attached to the wires to prohibit any waterfowl from using the ponds
as shown on (Map 34) found at the Energy Piines No. 1 and 2 existing
structures.
All salvageable mining equipment parts or machinery are sold to

816-105
