pile azea for later use in reclamation. The amounts of material excavated from each trench aze listed
below:
Trench #1 Trench #2 TotalVolume (cy)
Clean Overburden
(ey) 933 3111 4044
Contaminated Over-
burden (cy) 5733 0 5733
Clean Gravel (cy) 16667 9955 26622
Totals 23334 13068 36399
These quantities are based on a an average cross sectional azea of the trench of 420 sq. ft., excavat-
ing to a depth of 4444' with a 6' bottom width. Overburden thickness aze 3.0' and 2.5' for Trenches
1 and 2, respectively. It is assumed that 86% of the overburden from Trench # 1 is contaminated.
This is based on the CDPHE contaminated soil boundaries shown on Maps C-1 and C-2. The proce-
dares for hauling this material to the FMM farming site and spreading the material out for treatment
have been developed by the CDPHE and this activity will be done by them and FMM. No site run-
off will be allowed to enter the trenches.
Prior to any pumping of water into the sediment pond and the trenches, portable petroleum hydro-
cazbon sniffers will be used on al] exposed azeas of the trenches and sediment pond. The data will
be reviewed by CDPHE and evaluated. A written evaluation of the tests will be made by CDPHE.
When deemed safe or "clean", the data will be submitted to CDMG for evaluation and approval.
Only after CDMG approves the documentation will water be allowed to be pumped into the sedi-
ment pond and the trenches.
Once the trenches aze in place, the pit pump will be located below ground water level in the Phase 1
mining azea. Water pumped from the pit will be pumped in a plastic pipe to the sediment pond east
Gilsonite Pit 9/03
