• Removal of Surface Structures
Embankments and Impoundments. All embankments and impoundments will be
completely removed and reclaimed after the termination of mining
activities. As mentioned earlier, the Bear Coal Company is requesting
an exemption from the sedimentation pond requirements because the area
is extremely small and appropriate mulching and revegetation techniques
should be sufficient to rapidly stabilize the area and present future
unnecessary disturbances. Upon removal of the sediment pond and
diversion ditches, the affected land will be regraded and revegetated.
Mine Facilities. At the completion of mining operations, the portal
complexes, the main office and shop warehouse complex, the coal crushing
and handling plant, and other related surface facilities will be
removed. The sites will then be graded, topsoiled and revegetated in
accordance with the procedures set forth below.
• At the conclusion of mining, all mining equipment will be transferred
for the use at the .Bear No. 3 operation. No mining machinery will be
merely abandoned by the Bear Coal Company.
The portal facilities in the Bear operations will be completely removed
at the conclusion of mining. The conveyors used to transport the coal
from the mine portals to the crusher to the load-out area will be
salvaged; the conveyor structure supports will be removed and the
surrounding areas regraded, if necessary. The regraded area will be
revegetated in accordance with the revegetation plan set forth later in
this Section.
The facilities found on the surface, including the office, shop and
warehouse buildings will be completely removed following mining
activities. As described in the revised Application, certain facilities
will be relocated to the Bear No. 3 Mine. Materials which are not
• salvageable will either be sold to a local scrap dealer or hauled from
the permit area to a suitable dump site. The areas will then be
regraded and revegetated. The haul and access roads will be revegetated
_P2_
