• MINE FACILITIES - 2.05.3(3)
Bear Coal Company recently met with Mr. Arthur Dall, Manager of
Engineer, and Mr. Don K. McSparran, Manager of Environmental Technology,
of ARCO Coal Company. ARCO is the surface owner of the area utilized by
the Bear No. 1 and 2 facilities. The representatives from ARCO
indicated their preference that the area be reclaimed to "wildlife
habitat" which will best suit their post-mining land use. ARCO will be
sending the Division, under separate cover, a written request
post-mining land use request. The letter to ARCO from Bear Coal Company
confirming the discussion regarding post-mining land use for the Bear
No. 1 and No. 2 mines is attached.
Reclamation to wildlife habitat will require the removal of all
facilities, backfilling of the Mine No. I and 2 portal areas,
reclamation of all haul and access roads, and reclamation of all
• diversions and culverts. The bridge over the North Fork of the Gunnison
River will remain in order to allow access into the site during the
bonding. Once the revegetation success criteria have been met to the
satisfaction of the Division, the Bear Coal Company will completely
remove the subject bridge. A detailed reclamation plan is outlined in
Exhibit 2, Reclamation Plan.
•

-4-
