MLRD approved the two ponds as permanent impoundments in a letter dated November 25,
1985. As part of SL-03, the Phase IUPhase III bond release approved by CDMG in July 1999,
CDMG determined that it had no further jurisdiction over the impoundments (see Attachment F,
Ponds HG8 and 003 Regulatory Status, of TR-68). The locations of the two ponds are shown on
Drawing G-1, Permanent Postmine Features.
5.0 Wildlife-Proof Fences
Three shrub augmentation parcels were established in 1996 as part of TR-62 to enhance the
wildlife habitat characteristics of the reclaimed mine area. The three shrub augmentation parcels,
(identified as Parcel E, Pazcel HG-8 and Parcel 003) aze shown on Drawing G-1, Postmining
Permanent Features.. To protect the shrubs planted within the augmentation pazcels, 8-foot high,
wildlife-proof woven wire fences were installed azound the perimeter of the augmentation
parcels.
These shrub augmentation areas provide needed habitat diversity at the mine site. They aze used
by game and non-game avian species (i.e., sharp-tailed grouse, waterfowl and migratory
songbirds, etc.} to forage and for cover and nesting activities. To protect the established shrubs
within the shrub augmentation parcels from elk, deer and antelope browse pressure, and assure
shrub survival, the wildlife-proof fencing will be left in-place as permanent postmine features
following bond release.
In accordance with Rule 2.05.5(1)(b) the postmine landowner has requested that the fences be left
in-place. A copy of an executed authorization letter is presented in Attachment G-1, Request to
Leave 8-Foot Wildlife-Proof Fencing.
•
MR-]7 G.2 Revised 72/05
