•
Attachment G
Permanent Postmine Features
I.0 Introduction
The Hayden Gulch Mine is an inactive surface coal mine that has undergone reclamation and
closure. All reclamation and revegetation activities at the mine have occurred in accordance with
Rule 2.05.4 and the approved reclamation plan. This attachment describes the permanent
postmine features that wiil be left on the landscape following final bond release. The following
sections summarize information found in the Consolidation Volume (dated August 1995) of the
permit application package (PAP) that was approved by the Colorado Division of Minecals and
Geology (CDMG) via technical revision No. 63 (TR-63).
2.0 Postmine Topography and Drainage
Proposed postmine topography and permanent drainage channel designs were approved by the
Mined Land Reclamation Division (MRLD -the precursor to the CDMG) as part of TR-51 and
TR-52. The as-built postmine topography was approved by the CDMG in conjunction with SL-
01, the Phase I bond release for the former mine pit area (NERD, Hayden Gulch, C-80-003
Phase I Bond Release Final Notification, April 12, 1988). MLRD staff conducted a field
inspection in October 1987 and verified that slope gradients and drainage control had been
established in accordance with the approved reclamation plan and Rules 4.05.4, 4.09 and 4.14.
Certified as-built topography maps and cross-sectional profile maps were submitted to MLRD as
part of the Phase I bond release process. The approved postmine topography and permanent
drainage channels are shown on Drawing No. 2, Rev. 4 (Dated August, 1995), Reclamation
Sequence and Drainage Map, which is part of the Consolidation Volume (dated August 1996).
The Consolidation Volume was added to the PAP via TR-63.
3.0 Postmine Roads
All haul roads, access road and light use roads constructed for the mining operations were
removed and reclaimed in accordance with the postmining topography design approved via TR-
51. The only postmine roads are ranch roads that were present before mine development, trails
used to facilitate reclamation monitoring and maintenance, and tracks which connect the existing
ranch roads to the property access points. The postmine roads were included on the As-Built
Postmining Topography Map (dated Mazch, 1988) included in the SL-Ol bond release application
package; they are also shown on Drawing G-1, Permanent Postmine Features.
4.0 PermanentImpaundments
Two permanent impoundments (Pond 003 and Pond HG-8) were also incorporated into the final
reclamation design through several technical revisions that addressed the requirements of Rule
4.05.9. The impoundments are compatible with the postmining land uses of livestock grazing and
wildlife habitat in that they will provide permanent water sources for both livestock and wildlife.
MR-17 G.I Revised 12/05
