Benson Brothers Pig Mesa Pit <br />DMG 112 Application <br />Exhibit G -Water Information <br />(1) The operation is not expected to directly affect any surface or groundwater systems. <br />(2) The site will be graded to retain stormwater runoff with disturbed areas or be dischazged to <br />natural drainage within 72 hours after proper filtration. A Stormwater Dischazge Permit will be <br />obtained from the Colorado Department of Health and Environment. <br />(3) The water use by the mining operation will be for dust control at a maximum of 6000 <br />gallons/day and aggregate washing at an estimated 144,00 gallons/day. Most of the wash water <br />will be recycled from the settling ponds. Gravel washing will likely not occur November <br />through February. <br />(4) The operator has filed for a water right of 1 cfs for gravel washing and dust control. The State <br />Engineer has recommended conditional approval of this water right to be taken from the <br />Gunnison River via the North Delta Canal, which runs along the base of the mesa in the <br />southeastern corner of the 80 acres owned by the applicant. Water will be pumped from the <br />canal to an existing underground concrete tank for storage. Water will be pumped from the <br />tank to the process area for gravel washing as needed. Two settling ponds approximately 30 <br />feet by 50 feet will be excavated in the impermeable shale in the process azea and used to <br />recycle wash water. <br />(5) There will be no discharge of process water or water from dewatering. The applicant has <br />applied for a Stormwater Dischazge Permit for Sand and Gravel Operations from the Water <br />Quality Control Division at the Colorado Departrnent of Public Health and Environment. <br />
