1.2.5 Augmented Seeding and/or Cultural Practices
• In addition to 1998 replaced topsoil revegetation practices, Trapper also conducts several
augmented seeding and/or cultural practices. These practices are addressed below.
Mature Shrub Transplant Clumps
One mature shrub clump was constructed in Ashmore Pit during 1998. Three mature shrub
clumps are proposed in 1997.
Drainage Reconstruction
The acreages, location and methods are fully described in Section 3.0 of this annual report.
Diversion Ditch Reclamation
During 1996, Trapper removed approximatey 3.5 acres of diversion ditches. Ditches were
removed from our runoff control system since vegetation success and the remaining diversion
system is adequately handling runoff events. After ditches are back-filled, they are seeded to
the appropriate range site mix based on elevation. The areas reclaimed are documented on
our annual fall aerial photos.
Stock Tank Construction
No Stock Tanks were constructed during the 1996 field season. See Section 6.
Stock Tank Reclamation
Trapper reclaimed nine stock tanks in 1998. All reclaimed sites were seeded to the approved
1996 range site seed mix.
Developmental Drill Sites
During 1998, Trapper broadcast-seeded approximately twelve acres of developmental drill
sites using the approved seed mix. The specifics and locations are presented in L. Johns's
1998 Developmental Drilling summary.
Topsoil Piles
See Section 5. Topsoil stockpiles were sloped and seeded to the approved 1996 perennial
topsoil pile mix. Approximately 19.18 acres were treated.
Sediment Dams
During 1998, sediment pond Oak #2 was constructed. East Pyeatt #1, West Pyeatt #1, West
Pyeatt #2, Grouse #1, and Grouse it•2 were Leaned. All dams were broadcast-seeded with
the approved seed mix.
Historical State Aflricuttural Hoklinas
As mining operations progress across our coal leases, Trapper affects former state agricul-
tural leases. Since 1976, Trapper has permitted the agricultural lessee to continue fanning
.~ practices but with the stipulation that Trapper withdraws acres from crop production when
mining advance dictates. Areas outside mining prestrip operations are in historical crop rest-
rotation (small grain) or converted to perennial haycrop. Cropland areas mined and reclaimed
are seeded to the approved perennial haycrop mix. Trapper continues to manage these areas
until they revert to historical use after bond release.
