i
Ww re Bnxxs MtNF
Extanrr C
Crushed alabaster, which forms an excellent dust-free road surface, will be used as
gravel. The remaining azea will be used for the storage ofnon-weather-sensitive mine
supplies such as mine timbers, roofbolts, pipe, and cable. No hazardous materials or
fluids will be stored in this azea. Avalanche Creek Mazble & Alabaster intends to drill
a well in this area at some time in the future, at a location yet to be detemtined
(location shown on Exhibit E is for information only}. A grove of Douglas fir and
Ponderosa pine trees makes up the northeast corner of the main yazd. With the
exception of trimming some branches trees in this grove will not be disturbed;
however, in order to maX;m;~Q use of the rest of the main yazd azea, pazking will be
permitted in the grove. See Exhibit E.
White Banks Adit: The White Banks Mine is opened by a single adit from the
existing mine bench. Because of broken and loose rock encountered in the first ten
ft of the adit, ACMA intends to cut the portal face back an additional 10 ft along the
length of the portal bench, as has been discussed in section 6.3.3(1)(c) above. The
adit will be extended straight into the hillside for approximately 400 ft, the horizontal
thickness ofthe alabaster bed and the overlying quartzite and marble beds. Galleries
will then be opened off the main entry. Additional rooms will be excavated off the
main adit for equipment storage and maintenance, and for other purposes as necessary
to m;nim;~e surface facilities requirements, surface disturbance, and visual and noise
impacts. At some point a small second opening will be requved for ventilation and
escapeway purposes. The location of that opening has not been determined. A small
water tank is currently mounted over the mine portal. Lazger water storage facilities
will be installed underground as soon as an appropriate location is available.
In order to provide power for the equipment necessary to operate the mine until
commercial power is installed (in progress), Avalanche Creek Marble & Alabaster
has installed a 1 SOKw diesel generator set. The generator which isskid-mounted and
does not require a concrete floor, is temporarily located next to the cabin below the
mine bench northeast of FDR 310. The generator has been muffled to the extent
necessary to comply with Pitkin County noise abatement ordinance Title VIII, Section
4. When commercial power is placed in service the generator will be moved to the
main yazd storage azea and used for emergency purposes only. Commercial power
will be distributed underground from pole-mounted transformers north of FDR 310
at the southwest comer of the mine yazd.

Page 3
.v July 19.1999 (I S ~ I R.n
