•
4-40 Amendment
78-32
2
is not drained by any seasonal drainages, or permanent streams. iJo springs
or natural lakes were noted in the course of the survey. A small man-
made pond was found at the head of a northeast to southwest trending
drainage, and is shoran on the t4ilner, Colorado 7.5 minute US GS quadrangle.
Evidently, sufficient area is drained by the pond during spring runoff
to fill it, as no ditches are present.
The vegetation in the 4-4~ amendment area consists of several large
thickets of mountain manogany, and Gambel's oak ~.vith occasional open
areas of grass, and small aspen groves.
Large portions of the survey area have been disturbed by the
•
construction of recently bulldozed roads, bulldozed cleared areas and
soil test pits.
No sites either on or eligible for nomination to the National
Register of Historic Places were found in the 4-40 Amendment area. No
prehistoric sites or cultural remains were found, The only historic
disturbance found was the small manmade pond and a small wooden pole
corral that was reinforced with baling wire, and located just east of
the pond. The corral is apparently of rather recent age, and is probably
related to hunting activities, or the use of the pond for ranching
activities.
As a result of the archaeological survey of the 4-40 Amendment
area the Laboratory of Public Archaeology recommends that no further
cultural resource work be required in regards to the 4-40 Amendment area.
•
