Whitaker and
Clark, I hereby approve your request contingent upon certain conditions.
It was previously agreed that you will radio collar 15 mature cow elk
in 1981-82 and 1982-83, and it is my understanding that this will be
done as proposed. I am granting your request to drop the requirement
that 35 mature cow elk receive conventional collars. This request is
granted with the ua:.';::~t.:;tding that conventional collars will be placed
on as many mature cow elk as can be conveniently trapped to a total of
35 in 1981-82 and 1982-83 in a joint effort between you and this agency.
A corral trap and partial crew will be supplied by CDOW and you should
be prepared to supply the remainder of the crew and the collars. Details
of this joint effort including decisions regarding the suitability of
winter trapping conditions shall be arranged with P. D. Olson, Northwest
Region Wildlife Manager, by letter or with W. D. Clark, with whom phone
communication will suffice.
You are also authorized to implant vaginal transmitters in ten mature
cow elk as you have requested in 1981-82 and 1982-83 contingent upon
the following conditions:
1. Presentation to P. D. Olson of manufacturer or Food and Drug
Administration proof that elk on which the drug M99 has been used
are safe for human consumption prior to commencement of the 1982
archery elk season beginning August 28, 1982.
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Monte Pascoe, Executive Director • WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Wilbur Redden, Cha~rmon
Donold Fernondex, Vice Chairman .James Smith.
