d-06-1998 d:ddPM FROM ENG. WEST ELK MINE 970 9295050
Ms. Susan BurRmaies Page 1
Apri16, 1998
P. 2
access to the LRP allowed for the expansion of the LRP to the south and to the
west. Some subsoil that was evidently cut during the construction of the re-
aligned and re- located roads was not needed for fill and was added to the
Sylvester Gulch subsoil pile. As stated previously, the notation on Table 36
"Phases I-N & Road Relocation" refers to the origination of the soil in that
particular pile. As in response #1 above, this notation will be modified to
designate its primary use for the LRP reclamation.
Subsoil in the Sylvester Gulch subsoil pile will not be utilized for reclamation
of the relocated or re=aligned roads. Per PR#07, the reclamation plan for
Sylvester Gulch road was completely changed, as the current alignment will
remain and will not be reclaimed to its pre-1986 alignment. Similarly, the
former LRP access road was incorporated into the present main mine
access/haul road (constructed in 1990), and the reclamation of the main mine
road will not include utilizing the Sylvester Gulch subsoil.
i
The Division has also requested that Map 57, Topsoil Replacemerrt Plan, be updated
to include recently disturbed azeas. As this map would be more accurately updated
utilizing the Sylvester Gulch Facilities as-built designs, MCC respectfully requests to
revise and submit Map 57, along with this upcoming revision application.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Christine E.
Permitting ;
cc: Phil Schmidt
Kathy Welt
wbaoa498.doc
