Long
Division Dnttror
This letter lists proposed resolutions of issues concerning remaining reclamation tasks at the
Meadows #1 Mine. The issues were discussed with you and Bryan Archer, of Sun Coal
Company, during our meeting at the mine site on July 17, 1992. During that meeting you
communicated a desire to keep all structures remaining on the mine site, and requested
additional reclamation be completed on some areas. These proposals deal specifically with the
facilities and structures in the vicinity of the Yampa River, the northern most portion of the
mining permit area. The proposals listed herein are intended to clarify what work Sun Coal
Company will be required to complete, and what responsibilities Sun Coal Company, you, and
the Division have in regard to reclamation of the facilities area.
The Division and Sun Coal Company are interested in resolving these matters as soon as
possible, so that any remaining reclamation work can be initiated during the 1993 construction
season. We would appreciate your written comments on the proposals listed below. If you
would like, you may contact Larry Routten or me to discuss these items, or to arrange a meeting
during which we could discuss these matters.
1. The truck scales and scale house, coal recovery tunnel, shop building, Yampa
River bridge, and the office trailer may remain, as per the 1983 settlement
agreement between Sun Coal Company and yourself. Since these structures will
be retained, Sun Coal Company will not be required to reclaim the grounds
immediately surrounding the buildings.
