Shelton <br />Director <br />March 25, 1981 <br />Mr. Darrel Hespe <br />Dorchester Coal Company <br />2795 Skyline Court <br />Grand Junction, Colorado 81501 <br />Re: GEC Blasting Adjacent to Dorchester No. 1 Permit Area <br />Our File No. C-014-81 <br />Dear Mr. Hespe: <br />The Mined Land Reclamation Division has given initial approval to GEC Minerals, <br />Inc. to proceed with their mining plans which include blasting within 500 feet <br />of the permit boundary you share with the GEC Strip mine. <br />Enclosed is a copy of the blasting study data GEC has provided to date, and a <br />copy of the letter to GEC with the blasting guidelines GEC has agreed to follow. <br />I have spoken with Chuck Silengo this afternoon and he indicated that he would <br />prefer not to construct the wooden protective shields over the two petroleum <br />storage tanks unless it appears necessary after observing the first two or <br />three detonations. He said, if they continue blasting as they have recently, <br />no protective shield would he needed. <br />I will try to keep a close eye on the progress of this situation, and I would <br />welcome any comments you have on this matter as it develops. <br />Sincerely, <br />Peter H.
