Lanq
Division Director
Initial reclamation (demolition & grading) was completed at the
Hawks Nest east area of the mine during the Fall of 1991, and the
seeding work was completed in May of 1992. The following are the
outstanding reclamation work that needs to be completed at the mine
site. Below, I have identified the work that needs to be
accomplished, as well as the general time frame in which it can be
completed. I hope to make Hawk's Nest reclamation project one of
my top priorities this spring and summer.
1. In the east area of the mine site there are 4 55-gallon
drums that need to be removed from the mine site. These waste have
been temporarily stored within a bermed area. On June 28 and 29,
1991 all four 55 gallon drums were tested by Swift Creek
Consulting. The results revealed two drums as containing hazardous
materials. It has been recommended that DMG use a contract company
which specialize in removal and destruction of hazardous waste at
an approved EPA registered landfill.
Because of the specific nature of this reclamation task, this item
should be in a separate bid from the bulk of the earth moving work.
The companies that bid on this project should be specialized in
removal and destruction of hazardous waste. Swift Creek Consulting
recommends that the waste be destroyed using high temperature
incineration in order to reduce State of Colorado liabilities.
Incineration is extremely expensive (min. $15,700 1001b./hr). I
will explore the other possibilities for safe removal into an EPA
Landfill rather than incineration.
Below is the approximate time frame in which this reclamation item
can be conducted. Refer to the bond forfeiture project scheduling
prepared by Tom Gillis for further clarification.
1
