rv. Topsoil
Topsoil which was stripped in the Pit 1 area was stockpiled and amounts to 64,000
bank cubic yards. The recommended stripping depths for the Forelle, Manburn,
Satanka, and Blackburn soil series were followed. An additional 8,000 bank cubic
yards were salvaged during the drainage corridor construction and reduction of
highwalls. This topsoil was stripped from the Manburn soil series to a depth of 1.25
feet. Areas to be topsoiled were ripped prior to topsoil placement.
The total of 72,000 cubic yards was spread over 81 acres. This produces a topsoil
replacement depth of approximately 6 inches. This amount has been determined
suitable for reclamation of the disturbed area.
Information regarding topsoil can be found in Section 2.04.9 of Volume I, Appendix
E of Volume II and Appendix I of Volume III of the permit document.
The proposed operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
V. Sealing of Drilled Holes and Underground Openings
All drill holes, with the exception of the existing monitoring well, have been sealed
as required in Rule 2.05.4(2)(8) and 4.07. Additional work will be necessary to
assure successful revegetation of some drill pads. Information regarding sealing of
drilled holes and underground openings is found in Volume I, Section 2.05.4 of the
permit application.
The operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
VI. Use of Explosives
No explosives will be used in the future reclamation operations. Reductions of the
highwalls were performed by scrapers and dozers and no blasting of overburden was
required.
The original permit application included a blasting plan that called for ANFO
initiated by dynamite or primacord, which is initiated by fuse and blasting caps. This
was used to blast coal and overburden. Records of each blast were to be recorded
and these records kept for 3 years. Public notice of blasting was to be published in
the local newspaper and notices were sent to local government and public utilities
every three months
Canadian Strip Mine, C-81-026 21
July 31, 1992
