Page 13
of the block. When the down drain is shaped into it's final
configuration the sloping of material into this ditch will
eliminate these features. This work will be completed by the
end of the 1995 field season.
Moffat Area Block 7:
This areas mitigation measures will be similar to those of
Block 4. This area was topsoiled in 1994 and has very little
vegetation established. Again disturbance areas will be kept
to a minimum because this is also part of the trial area that
will not receive seed drilling. This work will be done during
the 1995 field season.
Moffat Area Block S:
This area will be seeded in 1995. As such the entire block
will be checked for erosional features that will be tilled
along the contour when found. The area will then be seeded
along the contour with the approved reclamation seed mixture.
In the past the mine has tilled entire areas to be seeded
resulting in the loss of much of the volunteer woody stem
growth present from the use of live handle topsoil. This year
in order to encourage these woody stem plants only the flow
feature areas will be tilled and then the area will be planted
using a no till seed drill. This work will be accomplished in
the spring as soon as the ground conditions allow.
Moffat Area Block 9:
Moffat Area Block 9 contains one area to be seeded this year
along with several smaller blocks to the north that were
disturbed for sc aper roads when stripping topsoil. The
section to be see ed will be mitigated with the same methods
mentioned above f r Block 8 with the exception of the area
around the Moffat spoil springs at the base of the hill.
These flow areas w 11 not be repaired this season to allow for
the spring field o develop into two or three concentrated
flow areas. If conditions allow in this field season a
protected flow path may be developed in order for the spring
discharges to reach the Moffat pond inflow ditch in a less
erosive manner. In order for this work to be accomplished the
area will need to dry up much more than current conditions.
Several gullies on the scraper road blocks need to be
repaired. This will be accomplished with a dozer on the
steeper slopes and the roto-clear on the lesser slopes. A
protective flow path will also be constructed at the far north
block to bring the drainage to the Moffat Pond in a more
orderly fashion. The work on these gullies will be done by
the middle of August and the work on the areas to be seeded
will be done as a part of seeding operations during the 95
field season.
6/22/95 DLB
