Long
Division Director
RE: Examin~ti'on of Tat6m Residence
It was my pleasure to assist you, Joe Dudash and Randy Price in
examining the Tatum residence near Weston, Colorado on February 1,
1995. Our examination consisted of a walk through with the Tatums,
Mike Rosenthal and Steve Parsons of the OSM, the Tatum's mining
engineer consultant, Carl Gerrity, Ralph Lopez and Larry Bennett,
representatives of Basin Resources, and Scott Barker, their
attorney. Our walk through toured the main floor, the second floor
and concluded with the partial basement. We then examined the
exterior of the structure. Further, I then conducted a solo
examination of the crawl space beneath the structure. Finally, I
examined the adjoining pastures, railroad right-of-way, and the
Purgatoire River channel, in the company of Mike Rosenthal and
Larry Bennett, chief engineer for Basin Resources, the operator.
Walk Through Observations
The Tatum's residence is an approximately 90 year old authentic
adobe and stucco structure. The house sits astride a low terrace,
approximately 15 to 20 feet above the thalweg of the Purgatoire
River channel. The ground level consists of a kitchen, living
room, library, office, dining room, bedroom, bathroom and powder
room. A covered terrace joins the kitchen to the originally
unattached garage. The main ground floor structure is roughly 25
feet by 60 feet, with its long axis east-west, paralleling the
Purgatoire River. The terrace and garage are approximately 20 feet
by 40 feet with their axis north-south, attached to the west end of
the main structure, forming an "L" shaped ground level. The
partial second story consists of a stairwell, bathroom and two
bedrooms. The second story, measuring roughly 20 feet by 25 feet,
is located atop the east end of the main floor. The partial
basement, approximately 12 feet by 25 feet, is located at the west
end of the main floor, beneath the kitchen, and is accessed by a
set of stairs from the kitchen. The crawl space is located beneath
the dining room, living room, bedroom, bathroom and powder room.
